Getting Around By Taxi

Because of their convenience plus the fact that they are readily available, taxis are a very popular method for getting around Las Vegas. Sixteen taxicab companies operate in the Las Vegas valley. Taxicab fares and fees (which are regulated by the Nevada Taxi Cab Authority) are:

Drop for initial activation of taximeter                      $3.30
Each additional 1/12th mile ($2.40 per mile)         $0.20
Waiting time per hour                                              $30.00
McCarran Airport fee per pick-up                            $1.80

After the initial “drop”, the taximeter will assess a fare of $2.40 per mile ($.20 for each 1/12th of a mile traveled). If the taximeter senses that the taxicab is moving less than 8-12 MPH, the taximeter will assess a charge of $.20 (twenty cents) every 24 seconds ($30.00 per hour waiting time). That is why the taximeter continues to accumulate charges even when the taxicab is not moving.
