Recent Las Vegas News

Things are always changing in Las Vegas. Here’s some of the most recent Las Vegas news, openings and closings:

06/26/10 New Show Opens: Vegas! The Show opened in the Saxe Theater in the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. Tickets start at $96. The show features one of Las Vegas’ lounge super-groups, Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns (formerly just SantaFe). The band is also about to return to a weekly gig at the Palms.

06/25/10 It looks like there may be some action on the long shuttered Lady Luck. A reopening towards the end of 2012 is possible.06/25/10 It’s been reported that UFC announcer Bruce Buffer is opening a new high-limit poker room and lounge at the Luxor. It kicks off on July 2 with a $10,000 guaranteed celebrity tournament with a $125 buy-in. Sign-ups begin June 26th and close at 6:30pm on July 2nd or once the seats or full (limited to first 65 sign-ups).

06/23/10 Plan for Lake Las Vegas: After two years in bankruptcy, a judge has approved a reorganization plan for Lake Las Vegas that wipes out old debt and gives the project a second chance. Credit Suisse, the project’s biggest creditor, has agreed to accept equity in the resort community.

06/22/10 Judge Zive in the judge in the Station Casinos bankruptcy case rejected a request to delay an auction of Station Casinos’ properties, calling the unsecured creditors’ motion premature. Boyd Gaming Corp. and Penn National Gaming have already expressed an interest in possibly bidding on some or all of the gaming company’s properties.

06/21/10 It’s been reported that the 53 year old Tropicana is being renovated with a South Beach, Florida, theme, refurbishing rooms and suites with plantation shutters and bamboo furnishings, updating the conference and exhibition spaces, changing the restaurants and re-creating the four-acre pool area as a Nikki Beach Club.

06/21/10 The Las Vegas Sun reported that Harrah’s Entertainment is interested in selling the Rio mostly due to its location, which is far removed enough from the rest of the company’s center Strip empire to make cross-marketing a challenge. The other nine of Harrah’s 10 local casinos front Las Vegas Boulevard, with some featuring newer attractions to lure passers-by. It’s an open secret that Harrah’s has entertained multipleoffers for the Rio, although no deal is imminent. The latest, and perhaps most legitimate, offer came from Penn National Gaming this year.
