Gambling – Avoiding The Dark Side Part 1
Posted By admin On Wednesday June 30, 2010 @ 7:53 AM In Gambling | No Comments
No blog about Las Vegas would be complete without something about gambling. Although this posting is (or should be for most people) all common sense, it shouldn’t hurt to be reminded about certain things that can keep gambling what it should be. Gambling can and should be fun. If you are a problem gambler, please seek help. Because money is at the heart of gambling (at least most of the time) and since losing is a very real possibility, money (or should I say losing to much) is usually what leads to most major problems with gambling, here are a few things that can help avoid problems:
Don’t gamble using money you can’t afford to lose. Gambling with money meant for important things like the mortgage or groceries will certainly lead to disaster either right away or sometime in the future.
Set a limit (regardless of what you can afford to lose) and stick to it. If you consider losing $50 (or $100 or ???) unbearable then don’t set your limit that high. Remember that if your going to Las Vegas and gamble for 3 days and you have $300 your willing to lose (for example), that gambling more than $100 per day you will likely lead to running out of gambling money before your trip is over.
Since it’s very likely that your bankroll will go up and down while gambling, it’s a good idea to set a reasonable goal for how much you’d like to win. Whether your goal is to win 50%, 100% or more, it’s a good idea to stop gambling when you hit your goal and put that money aside and don’t gamble with it. It can be very satisfying to win $500 (for example with a $300 gambling budget) and to put it aside so that you know when leave you actually won at least $200 for the trip. Conversely it can be very depressing to lose the $500 you won plus all your other money and maybe more (if you go to the bank or hit the ATM which is almost always a bad idea).
Use Common Sense and Have Fun
You can use “Google”, “Bing” or other search engine to get more information about money management and other aspects of gambling. Remember that not all online information is of equal value.
