The Best Overall Gaming Resorts
Tuesday August 31, 2010 by admin.
According to the readers of Casino Player, the best overall gaming resorts in Las Vegas are:On the Las Vegas Strip: #1 Bellagio #2 Caesars Palace #3 VenetianIn downtown Las Vegas: #1 Golden Nugget #2 Four Queens #3 FremontFor Las Vegas locals: #1 Rio #2 Red Rock #3 (my personal favorite) Palms Even though the Palms is my personal favorite because of it’s great video poker, it’s difficult to argue with any of the above choices as a good to great place to stay. I hope you find this information useful when choosing where to stay and/or play the next time your in Las Vegas.

Recent Las Vegas News
Monday August 30, 2010 by admin.
Here’s some of the Las Vegas news that was reported during the last week:
August 27, 2010 In case you wanted to know something you shouldn’t do when your in Las Vegas , the Nevada State Gaming Control Board has fined Caesars Palace $250,000 for allowing a high-limit baccarat player to stand and dance on the card table while the game was being dealt. The board filed a complaint accusing Caesars for failing to take action to protect the game and the customer, who even placed a bet while he was standing on the table. The incident took place last October.
“Fox 5 News” reported that as many as twenty-six people have been taken to area hospitals and 100 more are being evaluated following the malfunction of a chlorine injection pump at the MGM Grand pool today. Maintenance is working on the problem and the pool remains closed.
August 26, 2010 Operators of the new Cosmopolitan resort, due to debut on the Strip December 15, have announced a deal with Marriott International to be one of the chain’s Autograph Collection, a portfolio of luxury independent hotels and resorts. This enables Cosmopolitan to market to Marriott’s 32 million travelers which is one of the largest customer databases in that industry.
Big-cat magician Dirk Arthur, formerly a long-time performer at the Tropicana, is opening at O’Sheas on Monday, Sept. 13. The show will perform at 7 pm and 9 pm nightly (dark Wednesday and Friday) and General Admission tickets are $22.95. Also, a new musical comedy called Nunsense, which comes from a 10-year run in New York, is performing daily at 4 pm in the Shimmer Cabaret (dark Tuesday) at the Las Vegas Hilton. Tickets start at $19.
Want to know what are the safest and most dangerous neighborhoods in Las Vegas, together with stats on crime rates? Go to http://news.travel.aol.com/2010/08/26/safe-and-dangerous-places-in-las-vegas/ to see which areas got the thumbs up, or otherwise, plus the latest crime stats and how they compare with the national average (in particular, note that the car-theft rate is double the national norm).
August 24, 2010 Deutsche Bank, Nevada Property 1 LC, and Nevada Voteco, have been named as defendants in a lawsuit against the Cosmopolitan, in which the plaintiffs claim that its parking garage sits below the water table and is forced to run pumps “around the clock to keep the hotel from filling with water, engulfing both cars and people.”
August 23, 2010 The new nightlife venue in the Miracle Mile Shops which is taking over the space formerly occupied by Hawaiian Tropic Zone is now open for business. It’s a sister property to The Rockhouse Bar at Imperial Palace and it features food, drinks, and apparently a fearsome mechanical bull.
The passenger count was down at McCarran International Airport last month for the sixth straight month. Figures released by the Clark County Department of Aviation reveal that 3,518,217 passengers passed through airport last month — a 1.1 percent decline compared with July 2009.
It’s been reported that the Nevada (Nuclear) Test Site will henceforth be known as the Nevada National Security Site or N2S2, according to a spokeswoman with the National Nuclear Security Administration.
Las Vegas had the first pool-party fatality that I am aware of. A 27-year-old man from Oregon died after suffering a head injury while swimming in the Rehab pool at the Hard Rock yesterday evening (Aug. 22nd). No cause of death has not yet been determined.
August 22, 2010 Steve Wynn, who has the tendency to be obsessive in several areas, has done the same with his new devotion to his vegan diet. Every restaurant in the 5 star rated Wynn and Encore now offers vegan-friendly choices. No other resort in Las Vegas offers as extensive a choice of vegan cuisine.

The Big Eye In The Sky
Saturday August 28, 2010 by admin.
And now for something really different. If your interested in Las Vegas (and I guess you must be if your reading this blog), like photos of Las Vegas but are tired of the same old thing then here’s something I think you’ll like. Go to http://www.bigeyeinthesky.com/Default.asp?CID=Las_Vegas, click on one or more of the photos and fool around with them. There are plenty of interactive full screen virtual reality360 degree aerial and ground level panoramic photos mostly of the Las Vegas Strip on this web page. With the wide variety of subjects, I think that everyone will find at least one (probably many) photo(s) that they really like or at least find very interesting. You will also find links to panoramic photos of different cities, subjects and categories. Enjoy!

Las Vegas Restaurants
Friday August 27, 2010 by admin.
(With the end of the normal summer tourist season and fewer major happenings at Las Vegas pools, the normal Friday posting for what’s happening at pools in Las Vegas will be replaced until probably next year when it’s more appropriate.) In a town best known for its buffets, it might surprise some how many great restaurants there are in Las Vegas especially on the “Strip”. A good place to find out more is to read the rather dated but still useful (because most of the information is still valid) article “The 50 Best Casino Restaurants in Las Vegas” at http://www2.casinocenter.com/?p=610. More useful information can be found at http://www.lasvegasrestaurants.com/top10.cfm and http://www.10best.com/destinations/nevada/las-vegas/restaurants/. For anyone into good food, Las Vegas can be an excellent place to be. Check it out.

Vegas on $100 a day
Wednesday August 25, 2010 by admin.
Rather than being about specific deals, this posting is about about how inexpensive it can be to vacation in Las Vegas. I recently read an article that obviously was more than a few years old (because it mentions the Aladdin Casino which was torn down and is how Planet Hollywood) called “Vegas on a $100 a day Don’t Need Big Bucks to have a blast” on CasinoCenter.com. It is based on a woman who lived in Las Vegas taking a three day vacation in Las Vegas on $100 a day and having a good time. I thought that if you were already in Vegas with a car how much easier it would be to do that now a days then it was several years ago. With prices like $28 per night at the Excalibur and $30 per night at the Riviera, you could easily stay on the Strip (the woman in the article stayed at the South Coast over a mile west of the Strip on Flamingo Rd.). Then if you limited your food and gambling budget, went to free shows/attractions (http://blog.vegasreservations.com/category/free-vegas-showsattractions/ ) or maybe went to some of the less expensive half priced shows (http://blog.vegasreservations.com/2010/07/27/half-priced-las-vegas-show-tickets/ ), you could easily have a great time in Las Vegas for less than $100 a day. Maybe your good old days could be right now?

Penn and Teller
Saturday August 21, 2010 by admin.
Penn and Teller at the Rio (west of the Strip on Flamingo Rd.) is among the best Las Vegas shows. By combining some of the best comedy and magic available anywhere, Penn and Teller define entertainment. You’ll be amazed how well these two work together. It’s as if they are connected at the brain with all the words coming out of Penn’s mouth and all the expressions being reserved for Teller. The show is considered by many to be the most consistent show in Vegas. Why not check it out on your next visit. You can get tickets and more information at http://www.pennandteller.com/ or by searching on “Google” or “Bing”.
