Mac King – Best Budget and Daytime Show

My favorite daytime Las Vegas show (and one which is appropriate for the family) is “The Mac King Comedy Magic Show” at Harrahs on the Las Vegas “Strip”. It has also been voted the best bargain show for 2011 by the readers of the Las Vegas Journal-Review and I would certainly agree with that. Mac King´s show contains a unique and unusual combination of quirky humor, visual gags and quality sleight of hand. Mac is also known for his engaging personality and original magic creations like making a live goldfish appear over an audience member´s head. The show runs at 1 pm and 3 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Tickets are $32.95 plus tax & fees (and that price is often discounted – check around Harrahs for discount coupons) so you shouldn’t go broke checking it out. Enjoy!

You can buy tickets and/or get more information at http://www.harrahslasvegas.com/EventsDetail.do?detailName=the-mac-king-comedy-magic-show-detail&locationCode=LAS.

April 18 to 24 – Recent Las Vegas News

Here’s some of the news relevant to or about Las Vegas Nevada that came out during the last week:

April 18, 2011 Unhappy Tax Day for everyone who owes money.

ESPN, which is owned by Walt Disney Co., announced today that it is removing all poker advertising and programming, including the World Series of Poker (WSOP), from its schedules, following last week’s federal indictment against gambling websites that sponsor televised tournaments.

The Las Vegas jobless rate fell to 13.3% in March. That’s what I call not very good good news.

April 19, 2011 The ailing real estate market continues to bedevil cash strapped local governments in Clark County, with depreciating properties expected to produce about $200 million less in tax revenue in the coming year. This turns out to be more not very good good news because the $200 million less in tax revenue is much smaller than the $470 million drop experienced last year.

Lodging Hospitality has honored the Cosmopolitan by judging it one of the five properties to receive it’s 2011 Design Award.

Research firm, SalesTraq, reported today that sales of existing homes in Las Vegas rose to the highest level in 17 months with 5,114 closings in March which is a 7.6% increase from the same month a year ago.

April 20, 2011  Contrary to Monday’s news that ESPN was dropping WSOP from it’s schedule, company spokesman Chris LaPlaca wrote  Bloomberg News in an emailed statement that ESPN will, in fact, carry the World Series of Poker this year.

After being closed for awhile, the race and sports book at The Cosmopolitan has been reopened.

An armed robber, who was carrying a gun, tried to steal poker chips from the Stratosphere early this morning, fled the casino "when he realized there wasn’t anything to take."

April 21, 2011  Two online poker companies, PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, whose founders face charges of money laundering and illegal gambling reached deals with the U.S. Justice Department that will assist in the return of money to players.

Henderson City Council has granted a temporary business license to Casino MonteLago, the Lake Las Vegas casino that’s been closed for more than a year. The Nevada Gaming Commission has not yet approved the gaming license.

April 22, 2011  Penn National Gaming Inc. said it expects to take ownership of the M Resort in Las Vegas in June.

The Nevada Taxicab Authority reports that monthly trips increased by 8.4% in March over the same month last year. The number of trips increased 7.15% to 6.8 million for the first three months this year.

April 23, 2011  One gambler, who asked to remain anonymous, is going home a lot richer after hitting the Megabucks jackpot for $10.6 million at the 5 star rated Aria. The Megabucks win is the second at Aria this year. In January, another gambler won $12.7 million after playing just $6 at the slot.

A Las Vegas area man, who appeared to be in his early 40’s, jumped to his death from the eighth floor of the rear Caesars Palace parking garage at 9:49 a.m. Evidence indicated it was a suicide.

Fashion Show Mall

Although Las Vegas may be better know for it’s gambling, pools, shows and nightclubs, shopping is another great reason to visit. The Fashion Show Mall is the best know and most visited shopping mall on the Las Vegas Strip that is not attached to a hotel casino. It has been voted the “Best Mall” for the past five years by the readers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. With over 250 shops and restaurants including Saks Fifth Avenue, Dillard’s, Neiman Marcus, Macy’s and Nevada’s only Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s Home and Forever 21, it’s easy to see why it’s been voted the best mall. Fashion Show Mall is centrally located on the Las Vegas Strip just north of TI - Treasure Island and across from Wynn Las Vegas and it’s easy to get to by car, bus or walking (if your staying close by). It is normally open Monday to Saturday from 10:00am to 9:00pm and on Sunday from 11:00am to 7:00pm. Kids in Vegas

Although children (under 21 years of age) can find lots of things to do and are always welcome in Las Vegas, here’s a few things everyone should know:

The legal age for drinking and gambling in Las Vegas is 21.

Those under 21 can walk directly through a casino to or from non-casino areas but they are not allowed to linger.

On weekdays no one under 18 can be in a public place between 10 pm and 5 am unless accompanied by an adult or guardian. On weekends, school holidays and during summer vacation the hours are midnight to 5 am.
