Station Casinos “Boarding Pass” Upgraded

Station Casinos (many of which are among the favorite casinos of locals) has launched a revamped Boarding Pass Rewards (players club card) system. It has several improved features for players including the fact that cashback is now offered; points are now earned three times faster (.33% return for slots, video poker (except the best schedules), and video keno) and all 18 Station, Fiesta, and Wildfire casinos are now linked. I’ve blogged about the value of using players club cards when gambling before and that still stands. You might as well get credit (by getting rewarded) for your play. Click on –> http://www.stationcasinos.com/gaming/boarding-pass/casino-rewards/ to get more info about the “Boarding Pass Rewards” program as well as the opportunity to sign up for email offers.

Sept. 19 to 25 – Recent Las Vegas News

Here’s some of the news relevant to or about Las Vegas Nevada that came out during the last week:

Sep. 19, 2011 The Sahara is possibly coming back. According to today’s Wall Street Journal, the owners of the historic Sahara Hotel and Casino, which only last week completed its liquidation sale of all fixtures and fittings, say they have purchased the mortgage they had taken on the property and hired architects to redesign the casino.

It was reported that after a decade of declines, the water level of Lake Mead is finally on the rise. The lake, however, has seen roughly 590,000 fewer visits last year than it did in 2009, and even fewer this year.

Sep. 20, 2011 The American Gaming Association made its strongest call to date for Congress to legalize Internet poker, saying that regulations are needed to protect U.S. consumers from illegal online gambling operators.

The 2011 Mendelsohn Affluent Survey, conducted by Ipsos Mendelsohn, revealed Las Vegas was the No. 1 travel destination in 2010 for adults with an annual household income of more than $100,000.

Sep. 21, 2011 It’s been reported that Las Vegas’ oldest hotel, the Golden Gate (1 Fremont Street) is about to embark on a $12 million renovation.

SalesTraq reported that there were 5,699 house closings in the Las Vegas area last month (August 2011) which is a 31.2%  jump from the same month a year ago and which is up from 4,828 in July of this year.

Sep. 22, 2011 Nevada’s gaming regulators have approved the use of sports wagering kiosks inside taverns operated by Golden Gaming, but license has only been granted for an experimental period through July 2013, while its determined whether the devices are actually legal or not under current gaming law. The kiosks are owned and operated by Leroy’s. “Google” Golden Gaming to find their taverns if you are interested in checking the kiosks out.

Sep. 23, 2011 The Nevada Gaming Commission voted unanimously yesterday to approve a regulation amendment that will allow hotel guests to gamble in their rooms using mobile devices, where approved, starting Oct. 1st.

Sep. 24, 2011 The predominant creditor of the bankrupt Hooters Hotel, Los Angeles-based Canyon Capital Realty Advisors, will attempt an unusual gambit to try to take it over. They have proposed allowing all of the other creditors in the Hooters Chapter 11 case to be paid off, narrowing the dispute to it and the current ownership.

Sep. 25, 2011 The benchmark 30-year fixed-rate mortgage fell 3 basis points this last week, to a record low 4.29%, according to the Bankrate.com national survey of large lenders. This effects everyone in the U.S. not just Vegas.

New CSI Season Starts Tomorrow

So maybe this isn’t exactly about Las Vegas (since most of the series is shot at Southern California’s Universal Studios) but fans of CSI will be glad to know that "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (which is a show that centers around the Las Vegas Police Crime Lab) will have it’s 12th season opener tomorrow night (9/21/2011). The season opener (which had the cast and crew in Las Vegas in July to shoot at locations ranging from downtown’s Golden Nugget and Fremont Street Experience to Strip-adjacent sites on Tropicana and Hacienda avenues) has a new day (Wednesday), a new time (10 pm) and a new star (Ted Danson who plays the graveyard-shift CSI supervisor D.B. Russell who is newly arrived from Seattle’s crime lab). The season opener entitled "73 Seconds" focuses on a shooting on a tram between two fictional casinos. I wonder how long this show can keep going since 12 years is a long time for a TV show to last nowadays.
