Happy Thanksgiving - Some New Best Ofs
Thursday November 24, 2011 by admin.
Happy Thanksgiving. Have a great day hopefully with family and/or friends and good food.
Although there are numerous best of Las Vegas ratings out there, here’s some, five in the hotel category and two in the restaurant category - one from Fodor’s and the rest from Forbes Travel Guide, that may be of interest:
Fodor’s recently named The Cosmopolitan (which has been struggling financially) among the 100 best hotels in the world, nominating it in the "New and Noteworthy" category. In Addition, Mandarin Oriental at CityCenter, Skylofts at MGM Grand, Las Vegas Tower Suites at both Wynn and Encore were all awarded Five Stars by the Forbes Travel Guide (formerly Mobil Travel Guide). Joël Robuchon at MGM Grand and Mandarin Oriental’s Twist by Pierre Gagnaire were also awarded Five Stars in the restaurant category by the Forbes Travel Guide.

Kung Fu Thai & Chinese Restaurant
Tuesday November 22, 2011 by admin.
Those who like Thai and Chinese food take note. Kung Fu Thai & Chinese Restaurant, one of the best and oldest (maybe the best and oldest (over 35 years)) Thai and Chinese restaurants in Las Vegas has become the first Asian restaurant in town to become a Certified Angus Beef licensee. It was approved following a six-month review process by Sysco. According to the restaurant’s owner, most Asian restaurants use tenderizers, chemicals, and other methods - such as pounding the meat - to create the illusion of tender meat from cheaper cuts.
Kung Fu Plaza (http://www.kungfuplaza.com/) is located 1/2 mile from the Las Vegas Strip at 3505 S. Valley View Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89103, is open from 11 am to 11 pm daily and their phone number is (702) 247-4120. Enjoy!

Nov. 14 to 20 – Recent Las Vegas News
Monday November 21, 2011 by admin.
Here’s some of the news relevant to or about Las Vegas Nevada that came out during the last week:
Nov. 14, 2011 It’s been reported that in February, the State Gaming Control Board will begin taking applications for licenses from companies who wish to operate Internet poker sites in Nevada. Successful applicants would be able to offer online poker within the state’s boundaries similarly to the way that online sports betting operations currently operate in Nevada.
The Cosmopolitan continues to struggle to attract gamblers and posted a $58.5 million loss during the third quarter. The resort-casino’s rooms, restaurants, and nightlife continue to bring in the bulk of its revenues, with only 16% coming from gambling. It’s hoped that a new high-limit area with 15 tables which are due to be finished this month will help boost the take from gaming.
Nov. 15, 2011 Construction has begun on Splash Canyon Water Park, the new attraction on the west side of town slated to open Memorial Day 2012.
It’s been reported that Spirit Airlines, McCarran International Airport’s fastest growing domestic air carrier in 2011, will open a Las Vegas crew base and a maintenance base early next year.
Nov. 16, 2011 Bloomberg (on http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D9R173SG1.htm) is reporting that gaming giant Caesars Entertainment is once again moving towards an Initial Public Offering of its assets, having canceled an attempt to go public almost a year ago.
It was announced today that after 14 years, the MGM Grand is shutting down the Studio 54 nightclub on Jan. 18, 2012 to make room for a new nightlife venue.
Nov. 17, 2011 It’s was reported that Las Vegas is ranked as the seventh most affordable college town in the country according to the Coldwell Banker 2011 College Home Listing Report. LA topped the list as most expensive at $1.3 million.
Nov. 18, 2011 The Nevada Gaming Commission unanimously approved Leonard Green & Partners L.P. and TPG Capital as new owners of the Palms under an agreement that gives them a 98% stake in the off-Strip property.
Occupy Las Vegas today was given a 90-day extension on its use of a lot between Swenson Street and Paradise Road. The agreement legally allows the group to occupy the space until Feb. 20, 2012.
U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Bruce Markell rejected the Las Vegas monorail’s plan to exit Chapter 11 bankruptcy because the terms "doom it to failure, if not in the next few years then certainly by 2011" falls short of the legal requirement for judicial approval of the bankruptcy plan.
Nov. 19, 2011 It’s been reported that North Las Vegas is attracting more homeless because being cash strapped it lacks the resources to regularly roust the homeless, clean out their encampments and make them move along.
Nov. 20, 2011 It was reported today that this weekend Prince Harry, who has been training in Arizona with the British Air Corps, showed up at Tryst nightclub at Wynn Las Vegas fortified with cocktails and was anything but bashful. No inappropriate behavior was reported so it’s just another 27 year old having fun in Las Vegas.

Cocktail Lovers Take Note
Friday November 18, 2011 by admin.
The Mirage (on the “Strip” at 3400 S. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89109) recently unveiled a unique beverage program that features 30 specialty cocktails. Some of the cocktails are specific to individual bars and some of them are severed at bars property wide. The Mirage is claiming that careful thought went into each distinctive new drink resulting in stimulating flavor combinations, remarkable twists on old favorites and inventive garnishes which add striking detail to each libation. Four signature drinks are served at Fin, Onda Ristorante, kokomo’s, Samba, the High Limit Lounge, The Villas at The Mirage and the Sports Bar, along with six additional cocktails being served at select bars and lounges. You can get more information at http://www.pitchengine.com/themirage/the-mirage-reveals-innovative-new-cocktail-program-now-being-served-throughout-the-resort.
