New Year’s Eve Fireworks

One of the great reasons to visit Las Vegas for New Years is the Las Vegas New Year’s Eve Fireworks. Unlike anywhere else that I know of, Las Vegas has an awesome fireworks display that you are sure to remember. They shoot off fireworks from the roof tops of several different “Strip” hotel casinos with a major part of the Las Vegas Strip closed off and over 200,000 people on or around the Strip. This year fireworks will be shot off the roofs of the Tropicana, MGM Grand, Aria, Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island, Venetian, and Stratosphere. Whether you’ve been to Las Vegas for New Year’s Eve in the recent past or not, you might want to check out the following YouTube video that deals mostly last year’s fireworks.

Las Vegas New Year’s Eve 2011 YouTube Video

I think that the Las Vegas New Year’s Eve Fireworks is something you should see at least once in your life. If you have plans to go or didn’t have plans to go this year but changed your mind and would like to go and you don’t have a room and/or flight reserved, you can use either the “Click for up to $525 off Air + Hotel Packages” or “Click for up to 70% off Hotel Reservations” underlined links below to get reservations. You should know that because hotel occupancy is so high for New Years that some hotels are not available or require more than a 1 or 2 or 3 night stay and prices are usually high (some are very high) but then again so is the amount of fun you’ll probably have. Enjoy!

Ethel M Factory and Cactus Garden Tours

Because last Tuesday’s holiday attractions posting included a free Holiday Cactus Garden tour, I thought it would be a good time to talk about the relatively little know free self guided Ethel M Chocolate Factory and Botanical Cactus Garden Tours that are open seven days a week. The factory is located at: One Sunset Way, Henderson, NV 89014 and the Cactus Garden, which has over 300 species of plants, is located adjacent to the factory. Get more info at http://ethelm.com/about_us/factory_tour.aspx and/or http://ethelm.com/about_us/cactus_garden.aspx. It’s free so why not check it out sometime?

Dec. 5 to 11 – Recent Las Vegas News

Here’s some of the news relevant to or about Las Vegas Nevada that came out during the last week:

Dec. 05, 2011 Today is the 78th anniversary of the repeal of prohibition.

A new movie set in Las Vegas is reportedly in the works. It will star Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell as rival magicians. Advance crews were spotted around town over the weekend.

Dec. 06, 2011 Mayor Carolyn Goodman lit the Las Vegas’ official Christmas tree in downtown Las Vegas on Fremont Street at about 5 pm.

World Series of Poker (WSOP) officials announced that 22 players have committed to putting up $1 million each to play in what they expect to be the biggest poker tournament ever. It’s not really a $22 million pot yet because 11% is being taken out for charity. If seven more players enter, the first prize will surpass the $12 million Jamie Gold won as the champion of the WSOP Main Event in 2006.

Dec. 07, 2011 Comedy hypnotist Marc Savard signed a three-year contract extension with the V Theater which is located inside Miracle Mile Shops at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino

Dec. 08, 2011 It was announced that following the death of driver Dan Wheldon during the Oct. 16 season finale, the IndyCar Series will not return to Las Vegas Motor Speedway next season. The future of the event at the track is in part dependent on the results of the investigation into Wheldon’s fatal accident.

Dec. 09, 2011 Las Vegas casinos collected $560.5 million from customers, a 13.3% increase compared with $494.8 million collected in the same month last year.

Las Vegas officials announced that city offices are going to be closed from the Friday before Christmas (12/23/11) until the Tuesday after New Year’s 01/03/12) in recognition of a traditionally slow business period between the holidays and as a cost cutting measure.

Dec. 10, 2011 October’s Las Vegas visitor count (the 20th consecutive monthly gain over the prior year comparison) was up 2.7% from October 2010.

It was reported that Clark County businesses received $37.8 million in Small Business Administration 504 real estate financing in 2011.

Dec. 11, 2011 Hardly big news but the cocktail waitresses at the Palms have donned their holiday uniforms. As they have for the past several years, the waitresses are all sporting Santa-style outfits.

    Las Vegas Holiday Attractions

Wondering what holiday attractions and things to do (both free and fee based) there are in the Las Vegas area? The list includes Santa Claus, displays, shows, glittering lights, ice skating, a holiday cactus garden plus much more. The best holiday resource I’ve found that gives a great idea of what visitors and locals can see and do over the next few weeks can be found at http://www.lvrj.com/living/holiday-attractions-feature-lights-snow-santa-134553728.html. Room rates are generally good for the time period leading up to Christmas so why not visit Vegas soon?
