MGM Grand Lion Habitat Closes Jan. 31st

One thing you can say about Las Vegas, whether for better or for worse, is that it is constantly changing. The free MGM Grand Las Vegas Lion Habitat attraction and the connected Habitat Retail Shop will permanently close next Tuesday, January 31, 2012. First it was the white tigers at Mirage and now it’s the lions at MGM. The MGM Grand Las Vegas Lion Habitat opened in 1999 for $9 million. The closing of the lion exhibit is said to be part of a comprehensive MGM renovation, which includes the closing of the nearby Studio 54 nightclub on Feb. 4. The club space is said to be expanding into a much larger nightclub/dayclub operation, creating the possibility of incorporating the lion habitat’s 6,000 square feet, plus about 3,000 square feet of connected retail space that is also set to close. If your in town and want to see this attraction either for the first time or one last time, you better hurry.

New Songs for Bellagio Fountains

I’ve posted about the Fountains of Bellagio free shows along the “Strip” before. They clearly are one of the best free attractions/shows in Las Vegas. What you may not know, however, is that until recently new songs haven’t been added in about six years. The Fountains of Bellagio recently added three new songs to their choreographed repertoire including: The Beatles’ "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," Michael Jackson’s "Billie Jean," and Glen Miller’s ’40s hit, "In the Mood". This will bring the total number of rotating songs to 32. Enjoy!

Free Music Shows on Tuesdays

Every Tuesday night the Queen Victoria British Pub inside the Riviera Hotel and Casino (which currently has rooms for as low as $32 per night) will host a free “Music Night,” featuring Las Vegas Strip performers dropping by to showcase their talents. The event starts at 8 pm each week. Although it’s not known how long this will go on or who will be performing each week, the price is right and it may well be worth your time. Check out their Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Music-Night-at-the-Queen-Victoria-Pub-Inside-the-Riviera/144309928975397. Enjoy!

The Las Vegas Power Pass packages admission to popular attractions in Las Vegas into one affordable sightseeing package

Fremont Street Experience

From time to time I’ll update and hopefully improve an earlier posting that I think may be of interest to new readers and that I hope longer term readers won’t mind seeing again. Today’s posting was first posted on June 16, 2010. It’s about my # 1 favorite free show/attraction in and around Las Vegas, the “Fremont Street Experience (FSE)”, on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas. FSE is a visual and music show that uses more than 12,500,000 synchronized LED modules and a 550,000 watt concert quality sound system and takes place on a four block long (about 1500 ft. long) canopy that is 90 feet high at the center.

Check out the above video to see an example of why I think it’s worth your time to spend at least one evening in downtown Las Vegas. My #1 Favorite Free Vegas Show/Attraction

Continuing with the subject of free Vegas shows/attractions, today’s post is about my #1 most favorite free Vegas show/attraction the “Fremont Experience” in downtown Las Vegas on Fremont Street. The Fremont Experience is a visual and music show that uses more than 12.5 million synchronized LED modules and a 550,000 watt concert quality sound system and takes place on a four block long (approx. 1500 feet long) canopy that is 90 feet high at the center. Check a couple of my YouTube videos at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se5487EXk8w and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eQ-aJW6h4w at see why it’s worth spending at least one evening in downtown Las Vegas on your next trip. My 2nd Favorite Free Vegas Show/Attraction

Continuing on yesterday’s theme of free Vegas shows/attractions, today’s post is about my 2nd most favorite free Vegas show/attraction the “Fountains of Bellagio” in front of the 5 star rated Bellagio. Although it’s my 2nd most favorite, the “Fountains of Bellagio” is many people’s #1 favorite free Vegas show/attraction and it shouldn’t be missed. I’ve seen grown women cry while watching and listenisng to it and it’s quite difficult to describe so you might want to check a couple of YouTube videos:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B44-z555ZKc and  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lItZhzWOBtQ. If you want more information including show times, the “Fountains of Bellagio” website address is  http://www.bellagio.com/amenities/fountains-of-bellagio.aspx or you can “Google“ it. If your not sure where the Bellagio is, it’s on the Las Vegas “Strip” (Check out the printable Las Vegas Strip map at http://vegasreservations.com/stripmap).

My 3rd Favorite Free Vegas Show/Attraction

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a lot of fun in Las Vegas. Although Las Vegas is sometimes laughingly called Lost Wages, I thought it would be a good idea to start a short series of posts about some of the free Vegas shows/attractions that are available that can make your Vegas vacation a little more fun and a little less expensive.Today’s post is about my 3rd most favorite free Vegas show/attraction. It’s the “Show in the Sky” showing hourly from 7 pm to midnight Thursday thru Sunday (subject to change) at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino. The show is hard to describe so you might want to check a couple of YouTube videos:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TgHJ26MQdU and  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wy6-qO34iu0. Although free to watch, you can ride on a float for $12.95 per person (subject to change). If you want more information, the “Show in the Sky” website address is   http://www.riolasvegas.com/casinos/rio/casino-misc/masquerade-show-in-the-sky-detail.html or you can “Google” it. If your not sure where the Rio is, it’s west of the “Strip” on Flamingo Rd. (Check out the printable Las Vegas Strip map at http://vegasreservations.com/stripmap).
