O’Sheas Casino Closed Yesterday

This posting is for anyone who is familiar with the middle of the Las Vegas Strip and especially for anyone who enjoyed O’Sheas Casino as a place for inexpensive drinks and/or entertainment and/or low minimum wagering. O’Sheas closed yesterday (April 30, 2012) at noon after nearly 23 years on the Las Vegas Strip. O’Sheas parent company, Caesars Entertainment, say the 300 people currently working at O’Sheas won’t necessarily be losing their jobs because they will be given priority placement at other resorts and casinos including jobs opening at pools and at the upcoming World Series of Poker. A smaller version O’Sheas (which is already pretty small) is scheduled to re-open in a dedicated area within the $500 million LINQ development when it opens in 2013. When The LINQ opens next year, there are plans to provide about 1,500 full-time jobs in retail, at the new O’Sheas and other attractions around the 550-foot High Roller observation wheel.

Fitzgeralds is now the D

Fitzgeralds Casino & Hotel on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas officially changed its name to the D Las Vegas (with the lower-case "t"), or more informally, the D, last Friday (3/16/2012). The name comes from the location Downtown, the name of the new owner, Derek Stevens; and Stevens’ hometown, Detroit. Meanwhile, work is ongoing on several property additions and improvements. Among those additions is the just-opened "Longbar," which, at "about 100 feet," is being touted as the longest bar in Nevada. You can check out the 31 second YouTube video that announces the change below:

The Las Vegas Power Pass packages admission to popular attractions in Las Vegas into one affordable sightseeing package

The Riviera Improves Its Table Games

The casinos on the Las Vegas Strip are generally considered by many to not be the best place overall to gamble based on the odds of their table games and return percentage of their slot machines. In its latest move to establish itself as a gambling casino, the Riviera Hotel & Casino on the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip, which already offers single-zero roulette and 3/2 single-deck blackjack, recently became the first hotel in the history of Las Vegas (as far as I know), to offer 1000X odds on its four crap tables. The 1000x odds apply to bets placed on the Pass Line: Once the initial bet’s placed, players can back it up with up to 1,000 times their initial bet. If your into playing roulette, blackjack or craps, you might find a visit to the Riviera worth your time. As I’ve posted before (and will probably post again sometime) it’s my belief that gambling with money you can’t afford to lose is a very bad idea, so enjoy if you want but be careful!

The Margaritaville Casino Is Now Open

Heads up, Parrotheads (and other interested persons), if you like to drink margaritas (beers, …..) at all hours, play slots and table games in a laid-back atmosphere, the new Jimmy Buffet-themed Margaritaville Casino at the Flamingo Las Vegas on the Las Vegas Strip is now open. It is supposed to have 22 gaming tables, 220 slot machines, and a centrally situated "5 O’clock Somewhere" bar. The new party pit is located between the already existing Margaritaville restaurant and the main Flamingo Las Vegas casino floor. I haven’t been there yet but I am looking forward to checking it out. Enjoy!

‘Margaritaville’ casino to open in Las Vegas

The following is for Parrotheads and anyone who likes to have a good time. There’s a new casino scheduled to open in October in the middle of the Las Vegas Strip. Caesars Entertainment Corp. is going ahead with plans to open a $10 million Margaritaville themed gaming area in the Flamingo Las Vegas. This will expand the resort’s popularity among Jimmy Buffett fans as both the singer and the hotel turn 65 this year. The new gaming area will be adjacent to the Margaritaville restaurant in the former Steakhouse 46 location. Plans call for a 15,000-square-foot addition to the Flamingo’s casino with 22 table games and 220 slot machines. The Margaritaville restaurant in the northwest corner of the Flamingo has been "extremely successful" since it opened in 2004. Although it’s a rather small casino by Las Vegas standards, this one might prove to be a good place to spend some time (and money).
