Bellagio Upgrade Completed

As if it wasn’t already one of the best hotels in Las Vegas if not the world, the six month long, $70 million overhaul of the five star rated Bellagio’s rooms and suites were recently completed. The $70 million renovation started last June and 2,568 rooms in the hotel’s main tower have been updated. The rooms were designed by the MGM Resorts International Design Group and they feature three different color palates — indigo and silver, plum and tea green, and butterscotch and amber. The guest rooms in the Bellagio’s main tower had not been renovated since 2004. The spa tower and the hotel’s suites, which were renovated in 2007, were not part of the upgrade. The rooms are listed as deluxe resort rooms and apparently are $20 to $30 more than rooms that were not part of the renovation. Rates for a stay during January in the new rooms are reported to start at $219 although lower rates may be available.

New Name for the Las Vegas Hilton (1/3/12)

The Las Vegas Hilton, which was built in 1969, is a Las Vegas hotel, casino and convention center that has 2,956 hotel rooms and 305 suites. It was recently sold due to foreclosure and it’s changing its name effective Tuesday, January 3, 2012. The new official name of the Las Vegas Hilton will be LVH-Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. The name change was necessitated by the expiration of the casino’s contract with Hilton Worldwide.

Another One Is Gone.

Although probably not important to anyone who prefers “modern” Las Vegas, yesterday (Monday May 16, 2011) quietly marked the official closing of the Sahara Hotel and Casino. The Sahara, which sat on 55 acres and opened in 1952, had 1,720 guestrooms and suites plus a 85,000 sq. ft. casino. The Sahara was the northernmost stop of the Las Vegas Monorail and was considered to be the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip. Because the Sahara was the last of the so called “Rat Pack” casino hotels, it’s closing can justifiably be called the end of an era. Long Live Las Vegas – the city of constant change.

The Best Overall Hotels in Las Vegas

Having already covered the best overall hotel casinos in Las Vegas, I thought it would be good to look at the best hotels because many people want the best place to stay even if they don’t gamble or prefer to gamble elsewhere. According to a fairly recent survey of the readers of “Strictly Slots”, the best overall hotel casinos in Las Vegas are:

On the Las Vegas Strip:   #1 Wynn Las Vegas   #2 Bellagio               #3 Caesars Palace

In downtown Las Vegas:   #1 Golden Nugget      #2  Fitzgeralds         #3 Main Street Casino

For Las Vegas locals:       #1 Rio                      #2 M Resort             #3  Red Rock

Not surprisingly, many of the best overall hotels are also the best overall hotel casinos (see my Jan. 11th posting). Although It’s difficult for me to argue with any of the above choices, they are also many other very good to great hotels in Las Vegas which should be considered. Even though opinions can vary greatly, I hope this information is useful to anyone who is planning where to stay the next time they are in Las Vegas.

Casino Royale Hotel & Casino

Although Las Vegas is full of large (sometimes huge) 4 and 5 star hotels, I thought I would highlight one of the smallest and most modest hotel casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. The Casino Royale Hotel & Casino is a 152 room hotel casino located in the middle of the Strip between Harrah’s and the Venetian and across the street from the Mirage. It has moderate to low room rates, a players card that gives $50 in Slot Play for new club members (as well as other benefits),100X odds on craps (and other liberal gaming rules) and $1 beer. Even though Casino Royale is almost always crowded, is overshadowed by it’s neighbors and http://vegasreservations.com doesn’t even offer reservations for it, it’s worth at least a visit the next time your in the mid-Strip area. Some people love this place, why not find out why?
