Bellagio Upgrade Completed

As if it wasn’t already one of the best hotels in Las Vegas if not the world, the six month long, $70 million overhaul of the five star rated Bellagio’s rooms and suites were recently completed. The $70 million renovation started last June and 2,568 rooms in the hotel’s main tower have been updated. The rooms were designed by the MGM Resorts International Design Group and they feature three different color palates — indigo and silver, plum and tea green, and butterscotch and amber. The guest rooms in the Bellagio’s main tower had not been renovated since 2004. The spa tower and the hotel’s suites, which were renovated in 2007, were not part of the upgrade. The rooms are listed as deluxe resort rooms and apparently are $20 to $30 more than rooms that were not part of the renovation. Rates for a stay during January in the new rooms are reported to start at $219 although lower rates may be available.

The Best Night Clubs in Las Vegas

I think everyone knows that Las Vegas has some of the best nightclubs anywhere. Las Vegas nightclubs, in fact, took four of the first 10 spots on the Top 25 Clubs in the U.S. rankings released recently by Clubplanet.com.

XS at Wynn Las Vegas came in at No. 4, behind only LIV in Miami Beach, The Pool After Dark in Atlantic City and Boom Boom Room in New York. Clubplanet.com said the 30 cabanas at XS are a "recipe for success."

TAO at the Venetian took the No. 6 spot. "Las Vegas receives an insane amount of visitors on a daily basis, and it’s pretty fair to say that a majority of these guys want to visit TAO, one of the best nightclubs in the U.S." Clubplanet said.

Rain at the Palms came in eighth. "Rain is the quintessential nightclub, big, lavish, great sound, awesome lighting," Clubplanet said.

Tryst, also at Wynn Las Vegas, took the ninth spot. Saying it is "truly a magical club," Clubplanet.com loves Tryst’s waterfall and lagoon.

If your into nightclubbing, why not check one or more of the nightclubs listed above next time your in Las Vegas.

Happy Thanksgiving - Some New Best Ofs

Happy Thanksgiving. Have a great day hopefully with family and/or friends and good food.

Although there are numerous best of Las Vegas ratings out there, here’s some, five in the hotel category and two in the restaurant category - one from Fodor’s and the rest from Forbes Travel Guide, that may be of interest:

Fodor’s recently named The Cosmopolitan (which has been struggling financially) among the 100 best hotels in the world, nominating it in the "New and Noteworthy" category. In Addition, Mandarin Oriental at CityCenter, Skylofts at MGM Grand, Las Vegas Tower Suites at both Wynn and Encore were all awarded Five Stars by the Forbes Travel Guide (formerly Mobil Travel Guide). Joël Robuchon at MGM Grand and Mandarin Oriental’s Twist by Pierre Gagnaire were also awarded Five Stars in the restaurant category by the Forbes Travel Guide.

Kung Fu Thai & Chinese Restaurant

Those who like Thai and Chinese food take note. Kung Fu Thai & Chinese Restaurant, one of the best and oldest (maybe the best and oldest (over 35 years)) Thai and Chinese restaurants in Las Vegas has become the first Asian restaurant in town to become a Certified Angus Beef licensee. It was approved following a six-month review process by Sysco. According to the restaurant’s owner, most Asian restaurants use tenderizers, chemicals, and other methods - such as pounding the meat - to create the illusion of tender meat from cheaper cuts.

Kung Fu Plaza (http://www.kungfuplaza.com/) is located 1/2 mile from the Las Vegas Strip at 3505 S. Valley View Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89103, is open from 11 am to 11 pm daily and their phone number is (702) 247-4120. Enjoy!

Three Great Mexican Restaurants

Happy Cinco De Mayo. Being someone who really likes Mexican food, I thought I would do a posting about 3 of best Mexican restaurants that I know of in Las Vegas. The three are (click on restaurant name for more info):

Garduno’s (locations at Fiesta Rancho and the Palms Casino Resort) which is part of a chain started in Albuquerque, New Mexico that specializes on the on the taste of blue agave and green carne adovada.

Dos Caminos (inside the Palazzo Las Vegas) which is the fourth outpost of the Mexican cuisine mecca and the first outside of New York City.

Isla Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Bar (inside TI - Treasure Island) which has a modern Mexican menu created by Chef Richard Sandoval and has a bar which features more than 100 varieties of Tequila.

Enjoy!

Mac King – Best Budget and Daytime Show

My favorite daytime Las Vegas show (and one which is appropriate for the family) is “The Mac King Comedy Magic Show” at Harrahs on the Las Vegas “Strip”. It has also been voted the best bargain show for 2011 by the readers of the Las Vegas Journal-Review and I would certainly agree with that. Mac King´s show contains a unique and unusual combination of quirky humor, visual gags and quality sleight of hand. Mac is also known for his engaging personality and original magic creations like making a live goldfish appear over an audience member´s head. The show runs at 1 pm and 3 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Tickets are $32.95 plus tax & fees (and that price is often discounted – check around Harrahs for discount coupons) so you shouldn’t go broke checking it out. Enjoy!

You can buy tickets and/or get more information at http://www.harrahslasvegas.com/EventsDetail.do?detailName=the-mac-king-comedy-magic-show-detail&locationCode=LAS.

Fashion Show Mall

Although Las Vegas may be better know for it’s gambling, pools, shows and nightclubs, shopping is another great reason to visit. The Fashion Show Mall is the best know and most visited shopping mall on the Las Vegas Strip that is not attached to a hotel casino. It has been voted the “Best Mall” for the past five years by the readers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. With over 250 shops and restaurants including Saks Fifth Avenue, Dillard’s, Neiman Marcus, Macy’s and Nevada’s only Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s Home and Forever 21, it’s easy to see why it’s been voted the best mall. Fashion Show Mall is centrally located on the Las Vegas Strip just north of TI - Treasure Island and across from Wynn Las Vegas and it’s easy to get to by car, bus or walking (if your staying close by). It is normally open Monday to Saturday from 10:00am to 9:00pm and on Sunday from 11:00am to 7:00pm.
